Set in the summer of 1969 on Nantucket this work has a strong sense of place with rich emotion and details. I love learning about the 1960’s and this novel gave me some perspective for social norms of that era.

We must be brave

A woman caring for a lost child during WWII who never believed she wanted children finds herself unexpectedly at a loss and grieving when the child is taken away to live with its father. This book has a lot of feeling and characters that connect with the reader. I enjoyed the irony of the plot and how the story unfolded over time.
