Unionville Library Storytime - October 13th 2017 - Squirrels!
They may just be rats with bushy tails, but that extra fuzz goes a long way towards improving their image with humans. These furry, urbanized rodents can be seen running this way and that all throughout the fall season making books about them a fun way to celebrate the air becoming a little more chilled, without the direct reminder.

Will an unlikely friendship between predator and prey have a happy ending or a delicious one? Are both possible? Cartoony drawings a bit of messing with the readers makes this a fun one to read.
Format:
Squirrel can climb trees, fox cannot. What's fox to do when Squirrel makes another friend capable of climbing trees? Everyone can relate to Fox a little bit as he thinks he's lost his best friend to some new person, but in the end the book shows it's more fun if everyone plays together.

Rhyming books are always a treat at Storytime and this one is no exception. Lots of actions for little ones to mimic, so good for a restless crowd.
Format:
This book was swapped out of the lineup at the last minute, but might make a reappearance on a later list. Winter is coming and the busy little squirrel has no time to play with his animal friends. A simple, repetitive story makes this an easy one to get through at the end of a Storytime without losing what attention the little ones have left. Drawings that emphasize the life-like animals don't hurt either.
Format:
This one has two points against it for a library storytime - length and that it's mostly black and white, but this makes it a great choice to continue the theme at home. Earl is told by his mother that it's time he goes out and collects his own nuts. The adventure that follows features a friendly young girl, a wise owl, and an angry old bull.
