Celebrate Black Poetry Day!

Black Poetry Day, held on October 17th since 1985, celebrates not only the works of Black poets, but also Black heritage and literacy more broadly. The date honors the birthday of poet, writer, and preacher Jupiter Hammon, who became the first Black published author in America in 1761.
