Eva Berck, the daughter of the prominent German novelist and playwright, Rudolf Presber (1867-1935), was born in Berlin, Germany. She studied history and journalism at the Universities of Berlin and Munich. Ms Berck has written short stories for German magazines and has published two small volumes of poetry. Her first full-length book, Yonder the Bridge, describes her life in Germany prior to, during, and immediately after World War II. As a war bride Ms Berck in 1947 immigrated to the United States. She now lives with her family in the Laurel Highlands of Western Pennsylvania. It is always intriguing to see ourselves as others might see us. This witty and lively sequel to Ms Berck's first book, Yonder the Bridge, accompanies her to a small Western Pennsylvania town during the mid twentieth century. There she deftly assesses her dual role of bewildered newcomer and evolving citizen, wife, and mother. She soon senses that her new community's charm and benevolence oddly run counter to some of her ingrained customs, behavior, etiquette, and social codes.
