Print Awareness (I see words!) is the ability to see words and recognize that they have meaning. Knowing that the symbols have a meaning, being able to identify print in the world, and knowing the direction in which print is meant to be interpreted are all parts of print awareness and are essential skills for reading readiness. Pointing out print in the community, letting your child hold books and turn pages as you read together and labelling parts of the house are all good ways to encourage print awareness.
